We observed in some tutorials that a number of users had difficulties with putty on Windows. Although the instructions do work, we encountered that if they are not followed carefully users run into difficulties. If you like to us an alternative way, I strongly encourage that you look at:

Here we describe a method of using cygwin in a prepackaged form that you download and just start. Than all interaction becomes much easier for you.
